Miss Universe Myanmar 2019 Swe Zin Htet became the first openly gay woman to compete for the title of Miss Universe. Swe came out to the world few days prior to the beauty pageant held on 9th December 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia. The brave 21-year-old decided to come out as gay openly despite same-sex relationships are still being criminalized in her home country Myanmar.

Nan Khine Shwe Wah Win of Kayin State was crowned as Miss Earth Myanmar 2016, Swe Zin Htet was crowned as Miss Supranational Myanmar 2016, Chuu Thaint Myat Noe was crowned as Face of Beauty Myanmar 2016, Khet Khet Zar was named as Miss Tourism Myanmar 2016, Myat Eaindray Htet was titled as Miss Globe Myanmar 2016 while Poe Wathon Kyaw and Eaint Pyae Kyaw was adjudged as the first and second runners up respectively.
