Miss International 1991 Agnieszka’s death in the year 1996 stunned many. She was given a second life after she dropped out her plan of boarding a plane that crashed and killed all its commuters. Unluckily, two months later she was stabbed to death by her stalker.

Crowned Miss Hungary in 1985, the 17-year-old kissed life goodbye on July 10, 1986. Earlier in a radio interview she said, “I don’t know whether I can bear this, everybody is harassing me. They (people) ask: where and from whom did you get those beautiful clothes? Who helped you? Do you or your father have special connections with the jury? And so on”.

Maria Susana Flores Gamez from 1992 to 2012

Beauty queen, Maria Susana Flores Gamez was crowned Miss Sinaloa 2012. She was murdered in northern Mexico during a running gun battle between soldiers and the gang of drug traffickers she was travelling with. It was stated that her body was found lying near an assault rifle in a rural, mountainous area in the state of Sinaloa. Although it wasn’t clear if she used the weapon.

Mariana Birdi Costa from 1988 to 2009

Mariana began her career at an early age of 14. She secured the fourth position in the Miss World Brazil 2006 beauty pageant and competed in the Miss Bikini International contest the following year. In December 2008, Mariana was initially misdiagnosed with a kidney infection and by early January, medical reports confirmed a urinary area infection that has gone worse to become septic. Unfortunately, the sepsis caused tissue necrosis in her feet and hands which were later amputated in order to save her life. During her final surgery, a part of her stomach was also removed. She died on the morning of Jan 24, 2009.

Marina Kolobova Featherstone from 1978 to 2012

The 27 years-old former Ukrainian beauty queen Marina Kolobova-Featherstone consumed alcohol to death after her banker husband called their marriage off. Married to Andrew Featherstone, the head of operations at Brennus Asset Management in London. According to reports, she died of alcohol poisoning.

Mofya Chisenge from 1983 to 2011

Mofya represented Zambia at the 2006 Miss Universe pageant, Miss Tourism Queen International pageant 2005 in China and the Miss Leisure World 2008 pageant in China. As per the reports, she was admitted with malaria in pregnancy and later discharged. However, Mofya was again brought into a dangerous condition. She died on the same night after giving birth to the baby.

Nafisa Joseph from 1978 to 2004

Miss India Universe 1997 Nafisa Joseph committed suicide by hanging herself at her flat in Versova in Mumbai on July 29, 2004. She was crowned Miss India at the age of 19. Nafisa’s parents told reporters the model kissed goodbye to her life after her wedding with businessman Gautam Khanduja was called off. Later she found that the Khanduja was still married and not divorced as he had claimed.

Mauritian model and actress Viveka Babajee was Miss Mauritius Universe 1994. The beauty queen was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her apartment at her Bandra residence in Mumbai. Cops declared that acute depression led Viveka to kill herself. Month before committing suicide, she had reportedly told her mother over the phone, “I am going far away”.

Damarys Ruiz from 1947 to 2015

Damarys Ruiz was crowned Miss Venezuela in 1973. She died early in 2015 but before that she’d been living on the streets of Caracas for the past fifteen years. During a 2005 interview, she claimed she chose to become homeless after living with a brother who purposely starved and beat her. “I repeatedly called the police but they never did anything,” she told a reporter in 2005.

Irene Garza from 1934 to 1960

Pretty young Irene Garza was voted Miss All South Texas Sweetheart in 1958. Two years later, at age 25, her dead body was found in a canal. A slide viewer belonging to a Catholic priest named John Feit was found near her corpse. Father Feit admitted to hearing Garza’s confession on the night she was killed. He also pled guilty to aggravated assault on another woman that occurred shortly before Garza’s murder. In 2002—forty-two years after Garza’s murder—another Catholic priest informed the detectives that Father Feit had confessed to him that he’d suffocated Garza to death by placing a bag over her head and leaving her to die in a bathtub.

Monica Spear from 1984 to 2014

Voted the ‘fifth most beautiful woman in the universe’ at the 2005 Miss Universe contest, Mónica Spear was 2004’s Miss Venezuela. In January 2014 while she, her husband, and her five-year-old daughter were waiting at roadside to have their car repaired, they were ambushed by a group of robbers who shot both Spear and her husband to death. Her daughter suffered a leg wound in the attack. Three men who were part of a criminal syndicate that preyed on motorists were jailed for the crime.

Maria Jose Alvarado from 1995 to 2014

19-year-old María José Alvarado who was the reigning Miss Honduras attended a 2014 birthday party in honour of her sister’s boyfriend, who became murderously jealous after her sister danced with another man at the party. Both girls were shot to death, and their bodies were found buried in a shallow grave on the outskirts of town.
