Miss Universe Singapore represents what is young, current, stylish and hip in today's beauty & fashion industry; and in celebration of women who display those characteristics in their everyday lives, both as individuals, who compete with hope of advancing their careers, personal and humanitarian goals, and as women who seek to improve the lives of others. Since 2000, the pageant Miss Universe Singapore is organized by Derrol Stepenny Promotions. Singapore has been sending representatives to Miss Universe contest as early as 1954. The title of the first Miss Singapore ever was won by the actress Mariani Ismail in 1951. Singapore has been represented at Miss Universe every year since 1966. However, Singapore has not yet managed to win any Miss Universe title. Miss Universe Singapore 2013, the reigning beauty queen, is Shi Lim. She was crowned Miss Universe Singapore 2013 at on July 6' 2013 at the Singapore Shangri-La Hotel. The first runner-up was Cheryl Desiree Chan and the second runner-up was Cordelia Low. Shi Lim competed in Miss Universe 2013, though remained unplaced at the event.
